Unit 9 Evaluation

The 3 purposes of nature and decay, school brochure and photo essay was to show people different ways of presenting the pictures i took. I mainly used Photoshop to edit any of my pictures then posted them to my blog. I struggled using Photoshop but soon got used to it yet some things i didn't know how to use on there. I asked help and slowly learnt how to do certain things on there. 

Nature and Decay was an exerbition of picture so it had to be clear pictures with mild editing to each photo. I mainly cropped and did little but effective edits which improved the pictures massively by most of the time making the colours stand out more. My pictures were defiantly improved. 

The school brochure was to entice people to come to the school, Hence the need of good long shots of the different parts of the school and what the school has to offer people. I made the school brochure bright and attractive so it stands out and attracts attention. 

The photo essay is to present pictures in a way to tell a story. In the photo essay i chose to focus on the life of my dog. 'bert' I thought it was appropriate as the photo essay is a good example of telling a story and how easy bert's life was. 

I was 'after' my pictures to look attractive and to have clear, focused photos. This was to make them look better and fit the purpose of what i was taking the photos for. 

I enjoyed taking the pictures as i could get different angles and different shots. 

I didn't enjoy editing as i cant use photoshop that well. Luckily i know the basics for photoshop and that still helped me improve my pictures yet i would like to learn more so i can edit my pictures better than i have. I generally enjoy editing i just dont like the fact i dont know how to use certain things on photoshop. 

My best image is a long shot of the school this is because it shows the surroundings of the school and the school is a nice place to look at so it also stands out and looks nice. In the current brochure there is a picture very alike. This makes the brochure look very professional. 

In the photo essay there is a picture of Bert running in the garden. This is to show the chilled out life this dog leads. I practiced taking photos so i could take photos to the best of my ability however there is always room for improvement. 

I didn't like the nature and decay section as the photos were very dull. I had a look at many photos of the internet of nature and decay even though i only did decay. I mainly looked at examples off google and got a few ideas. I edited all of the decay pictures which improved the look of the dull photos i took. This made the pictures stand out more.

I improved my skills of as a photographer by practicing taking photos and looking on the internet of professional images. Also my teacher provided help sheets which helped. I mainly practiced at home taking a few photos of my horse while moving to get good angles of animals movement. Then i took photos of my dog which also helped me produce some good movement images. I enjoyed the whole experience of taking and editing the photographs. 

I thought that flickr,youtube and blogger was a good way of presenting my pictures in certain ways. I liked using flickr because i made a slideshow and it was a good way of presenting my pictures and i liked the way they was set out on the slide show. 

i got feedback on my images by using 'freed back' this was a way of making a easy way of getting feed back. This website made it better for me to get feedback. This helped me find out what i did good and not so well in my work for unit 9.

Picture Essay

I changed the picture to black and white because i feel it made the picture stand out and make more of a statement. The reason i only cropped and turned my picture black and white as i feel my picture did not need much editing but the editing i did do has now improved the pictures. The orignal colours were dull but the saturation worked. (Top picture before, Bottom picture after.) 

The techniques i used was changing the exposure. I did this because i thought that in places of the original picture was dull. I also put the brightness up a bit as i wanted the whole picture to light up more to bring out the colours. However The orignal colours were mixed and have benefitted from this edit. I also cropped the picture to attract attention to the middle of the picture. (Top picture before, Bottom picture After.) 

In this edited picture i have used selective colour as certain colour then can stand out. I also used brightness and contrast to darken the picture and possibly lighten the picture in certain places. I made the picture darker for the purpose of the background, things were going on and i now think the picture has defiantly been improved with the editing that has been done to it. (After top picture, Before bottom picture.)

I have edited this picture and changed it to black and white, i did this because there was a range of dull colours and this picture looks a lot better now it's just black and white. It brings out the white in the picture and the background of the photo also stands out nicely in black and white. The purpose of this edit was to block out the mixture of colours in this picture. the background of the picture took the colour away from the centre of the picture which didnt make the picture look as good. Edited Photos For School Brochure

I changed the colour balance as i think the colour of the stairs is lacking to i played about with the balance and it now has more colour. I also cropped the picture to focus on a angle of the stairs. (Top After, Bottom Before) 

I turned this picture to black and white as there was a range of different colours which made the picture look all over the place. I also brought up the brightness so the lights in the room look  brighter and also the white in the room stands out. (Top Before, Bottom After) 

Edited Pictures Of Decay For Exhibition

I put more brightness on this picture as i thought it needed to be brightened up. I also changed the colour balance slightly to highlight the brighter colours in the pictures.

I upped the brightness and the contrast on this picture to made the background stand out more. I also increased the levels on this picture. I did this because the photo was lacking background bright colours. 

I changed the exposure on the picture to make the dark bits in the picture more darker and the lighter bits more light. This makes a good contrast of colours. I also slightly cropped this picture as there was half a grave stone and i thought i was focus on the ones where you can see the whole of it. 

In this picture i have lowed the brightness so the dark colour of the wall stands out and the green moss on the wall also stands out and because the colour green is so dark is really outlines the dark colours in this picture. I changed the colour balance, levels and brightness/contrast the achieve this photo edited to the way it is. I think that this picture look better the way i have edited as it shows decay on the wall.
